Chickens for superior royalty!

Jubilee Orpingtons were created by William Cook in 1857. They were created by crossing Spangled Old English Game with Dorkings and then breeding this outcome with the Buff Orpingtons. They were named for and gifted to the Queen Victoria to honor her jubilee year as queen of Britain. They quickly became the spirit of the British spirit and were nearly wiped out from existence by Hitler during World War II.

Although they have been in the UK for hundreds of years, Jubilee Orpingtons are a fairly new import to the U.S. and are a difficult breed to find. But lucky for you, The Chick Depot is one of the few places that have these gems readily available. Even though they were created to visually please, they still retain their dual purpose qualities.

They are the epitome of beauty with their deep mahogany feathers that are splattered with flicks of ruby and emerald spots, much like that of the Speckled Sussex. It can take over a year for their color pattern to fill in and its striking none the less. With each molt, their color pattern will increase.  Like other Orpington varieties, they have large amounts of huge, fluffy feathers, especially on their abdomen and thighs. Jubilee Orpingtons have white flesh and single combs.

Though they are a bird created for royalty, they certainly have not let it go to their heads. Jubilee Orpingtons are very tame and docile. Their sweet and gentle dispositions make them wonderful family birds. They will go broody and make terrific mothers!

Hens will lay around 150 eggs a year.

Cocks weigh 9-10 pounds.

Hens weigh 7.5-8 pounds.

Due to their rarity and high demand, Jubilee Orpingtons will only be available March-July with a limit of 9 chicks per order.

They are not yet recognized by the American Poultry Association.
