A true American breed developed in California during the 1930's. Bred for high egg production and meat. They are the least flighty breed among the production white egg layers.California Greys were first developed by crossing leghorns and barred rocks. A great production bird for any sized flock. Both hes and cock birds will have black and white baring throughout their bodies.
California Greys lay around 300 large, white eggs a year.
Hens weigh about 4.5 pounds; Cocks weigh 5-6 pounds.
